The FFMI Calculator helps you estimate your Fat-Free Mass Index. FFMI tells you how much lean mass (muscle, bones, organs, etc.) you have compared to your height. It is commonly used by fitness enthusiasts, bodybuilders, and athletes to monitor muscle growth and progress without considering fat.

What is FFMI?

FFMI stands for Fat-Free Mass Index. It’s similar to BMI (Body Mass Index), but instead of using your total weight, FFMI focuses on your fat-free weight. This makes it a better tool for measuring muscle development.

FFMI Formula

FFMI = (Lean Mass in kg / Height in meters²)

Lean mass is your body weight minus fat. If you know your body fat percentage, you can calculate it easily:

Lean Mass = Body Weight × (1 − Body Fat %)

Example

If someone weighs 80 kg, is 1.80 meters tall, and has 15% body fat:

Lean Mass = 80 × (1 − 0.15) = 68 kg

FFMI = 68 / (1.80 × 1.80) = 68 / 3.24 = 20.99

What is a Good FFMI Score?

Below 18: Below average muscle mass

18 - 20: Average range

20 - 22: Fit and muscular

22 - 25: Very muscular

Above 25: Exceptional (may be due to genetics or enhancements)

Why Use the FFMI Calculator?

This calculator gives you a clearer picture of your muscle status. If you're working on gaining muscle or cutting fat, FFMI is more reliable than BMI. It helps you understand if your gains are real muscle or just fat.
